Something different for a change.

Chinese style Fried Rice.
Today is the first time I cooked something Asian style; I cooked fried rice!! There wasn't much ingredients in it because I only took what I could find from the kitchen.

So, I with some of the garlic, big onion, carrots, mushrooms, eggs I found from the kitchen store room, I fried them with the rice. Yumm yuumm~I sure enjoyed my lunch today. :) Tastes like food from home in Malaysia.

Mama and Papa tried my cooking and they said it was not bad. I guess that means that my cooking isn't so bad after all. =D

Have a good day to all! (:

Cooking Meetings

Last Tuesday evening, I joined my friend, A in a Cooking Meeting her neighbour's daughter organized. I thought that it was a great meeting. It was so brilliant for the organizer to arrange for these kinds of meeting, it is such a nice way to bring people with common interest together.

I am very glad that I joined her in this cooking meet up as I got to meet the ladies. And guess what, it was such a coincidence, one of the ladies is from Malaysia and another one is from ShangHai! They are currently living in the same town as me!!

I'm glad that I found some people who went through the same situation as I am going through now; learning the German language and adapting to a new foreign country. When you see people that manage to overcome tough challenges and listen to their stories, it gives you the encouragement to keep going too.

Everyone brought their own ingredients for the dish that they wanted to cook and without wasting much time, we all started getting busy cooking. It was my first time joining them so I had no idea what to prepare. My friend and I only helped the ladies cook this time but maybe the next time, we will try cooking something together.

Here are some of the food cooked on this meeting;

Someone made Spinach Pizza..

Spinach and cheese on the pizza and a cheese dip.

Another lady made Meat sticks..

Meat, Tomato, Mushrooms, Paprika, Cucumber and some Sauce to go with it.

Another made Cucumber & Onion with eggs..

This is my first time eating fried egg like this. Since I came to Germany, I have only eaten hard boiled egg. It was deliciousss~

The lady from Shanghai cooked a Mix Vegetable dish.. Ohh, I miss my home food after eating that...

Celery, Carrots, Prawns and Peas.

And the lady from Malaysia cooked Curry and Rice. It was a special kind of curry because it was made to suit the German taste. The curry was not too spicy, just fine for the Germans. It was different from the ones I eat at home in Malaysia but because I have not eaten it for such a long time, it tasted so incredibly delicious to me.

I may enjoy the food here, but I do miss Malaysian food...

Once everyone finished cooking their dishes, we sat down at the table to try out the different kinds of food.

I should have been smarter like my friend to go with an empty stomach. Since I ate lunch that afternoon, my stomach was bloated after the first round of food testing. All the food were so delicioussssss but there was no more room in my stomach to take in more food.

But I could not let myself leave without trying this super yummy dessert one of the ladies made.

Cake with almond nuts on top... Fuhh~ yum yumm~

I noticed that the food they cook here are really fast and easy, nothing too difficult. I think that maybe I will start to like cooking after joining these ladies in their cooking meetings.

I really enjoyed the meeting and I have decided to join them with my friend in their following meetings which is once every month. I bet it is going to be fun! =D

My LOC(Late Orientation Camp) in Büsum

Last weekend, I was in Büsum with 13 other exchange students and 5 awesome AFS volunteers for my Late Orientation Camp which is one out of the three camps that I will be attending during my stay in Germany.

After school on Friday, I took the train alone up to Büsum. Dont' worry, nothing happened to me, I was perfectly safe. The journey was lonely at first but after changing trains at Heidi, I met some of the others from the group. We talked about our first few weeks in Germany and shared about things we thought was different from our home country.

At each train station stop before reaching Büsum, we also tried guessing whether the passengers that came on board were from our group. But, it was quite obvious they were not because if someone was from our group, they would look totally lost like we did when we got on the train. None of them looked like one of us, they look like, well, GERMAN.

The scenery during the journey was incredibly beautiful, I enjoyed the untouched nature. There may be many inhabitants in Germany but they leave mother nature as she is and this is what I like about the environment here. The nature gives people the feeling of calmness and freshness.

We come all the way from Malaysia, Thailand, Columbia, Brazil, Australia, Argentina, Portugal, Japan
I like this kind of programs because we get the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. We get to exchange experiences, share thoughts and discover how different we are from each other. It is also very nice when you get to tell people that "Oh! I got a friend from Columbia, from Brazil, or from Thailand!". It is a great feeling. Not only that, you would always know that you have someone to contact when you go traveling to their countries.

We stayed at the Büsum Youth Hostel and I thought that it was a really nice place to spend the weekend. There were clean beds, big toilets, delicious food, fun games, everything was nice. To me, it was like a hotel instead of a hostel. Maybe it was just me that felt that way because most of the hostel that I have stayed in weren't as nice and comfortable as this I think.

OUR Frühstück (Breakfast)
Marmalade and Nutella

All kinds of yummy Ham

Obst (Fruits).  First time having that many choices of fruits to choose from for breakfast. =D

Cereal and Musli. I loved the mix fruits musli.

On Saturday, we made a trip out to the Büsum town and paid a visit to the the North Sea. The weather was not as fine compared to the other two days we were there but we still went ahead anyways.

The boats. I wish that I will get the opportunity to go out to the sea on those one day.

The girls I had lots of fun with.

Tour Ferry. I hope I get to go on one of those if we make a trip to Helgoland(an island nearby)!

I had lots of fun with the bunch them!

Busy street of Büsum

The spectacular view of North Sea. The wind however was freezing cold. =/

They are AWESOME!

Cycling is what we do here in Germany.

Shopping along the streets of Büsum.

He couldn't resist taking photos of the cute ducks and beautiful flowers.

On Sunday, we spent an hour outdoors in the warm sun playing volleyball, basketball and football. It was lots of fun!

We didn't know how to play the sport but we just PLAYED anyway, we played with the rules we came up with!
The group of north Germany!

The weekend was great! I wish the camp was for a longer period of time so that we could spend more time together.
Though the camp was only for a few days, it seemed like we have already known each other for a very long time.
Being back home now, I miss them all already! I can't wait to meet them again in 4 months' time! =DD

Till then, I hope they enjoy their stay as much as I will with mine!

See ya'll soon!

Also, thanks to the AFS volunteers for the amazing fun and informative weekend! We had a great time!

Happy Birthday, SIS!

Dearest sister's birthday was last Friday on the 16th of March!

I know, I know, sorry for the very late update! Was too caught up with my activities. Sis was busy last weekend too, so we only had a little celebration for her on Sunday instead of Friday.

She is a really lucky girl, she received so many lovely presents for her birthday.

So, on Friday, she received her presents from us.

Many more inside the biggest present.

The most special present of all was breakfast (huge bowl of mixed fruits salad)!

Mama made the fruits ready and decorated the dining table just for her birthday.

A bowl of colourful fruits.

The setting of the dining table for her birthday.

I handmade a birthday card for her.
The front picture was drawn by me and I attached a bar of Toblerone on the card.

Glad to see a smile on her face.

Her presents from us!
Noticed that huge pink purple cone? Her girlfriend gave it to her and she had to carry it with her on the bus home. It was funny how she got weird looks from people on the bus. Guess what is inside the cone? Bars and bars of SCHOKOLADE! Her favourite!

And on Sunday, we had a little tea party to celebrate her birthday with relatives.

Mama and I baked an apple cake and I made some jelly too! The apple cake was yumm yummm~~ however, they didn’t like the jelly so much.

Living room.

Ready for tea.

The family.
Alicia was exhausted when she came back from scouts but I am pretty sure she was the happiest girl that weekend. (:

Once again, Happy birthday, Schwester(sister)! =D
May your wishes come true! xoxo~

Cooking dinner!

I helped mama prepare dinner for the 3 of us since sis is away.

So, let's start. I think that it is quite easy to prepare, so, maybe you can try it too! :D

From the recipe magazine.

Cut the white bread into small pieces.
The bread is to prepare the crispy bread crumbs on the top.

After cutting them into small pieces, now it's time to make it crispy!

Melt the butter.
After melting the butter in the pan, you can put the pieces of bread in to fry until it becomes crispy.

At the mean time, you can prepare the rest of it like the fish, potato and onion.

Fish fillet

Boil the potatoes.
Then also, you have to boil some potatoes. Make sure you don't boil it for too long because you're going to cut them into slices later.

Raw sliced leeks
Cut the leeks into slices like these and then you have to fry it for around 10 minutes in some butter. Don't forget to put in some salt and pepper to give it some taste!

Fry the Leeks.

Adding some salt to the fish too!

Slice the fish into small pieces like these.

Spread some butter over the tray for baking.
Now, I am not quite sure if you can find this white cream in the grocery shop. It is called schmand and it tastes like whip cream only that it is not sweet. Maybe if you can't find the exact same thing we used, try looking for something that is mild sour whip cream.

Evenly lay it out on the baking tray.

You can go back to your bread crumbs and the onions now. As long as you think the bread is crispy enough, you can turn off the fire.

The crispy crumbs

I'm sorry I don't have a picture of laying out the food on the tray because I was too busy helping.

But it's not hard, you just need to lay them in rows. First you can lay the sliced potatos, then the pieces of fish fillet and cooked leeks alternately. Don't stop there, continue laying them until you have filled the whole tray.

If you would prefer some cheese, you can put some shredded cheese on the top. Remember to put in your crispy bread crumbs too!

When you want to eat it. Just put it in the oven to bake for around half an hour and there you get your meal!

Tadddaaaaa~

Our meal!

Simple and easy meal. Not to hard right? :D

Do tell me how yours turn out. (:
